Gene Autry was also a senior executive with NBC and in addition to owning
Golden West Broadcasting owned the California Angels baseball team. He was
an extremely good businessman and Golden West was when he owned it a premier
broadcast group. 

And you all thought he just sang Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer!

That was Bing Crosby. He provided the capital that was the beginning of
Ampex and tape recording.
