LOL! I had to flip my 2c in here... Having run AV since the late 1990's at
WFIF, I knew what the system was capable of... and we pretty much scratched the
suface in some areas, and pushed it to the limits in other areas. :) We
started with only 3 sound cards. That was when we had it almost up to the redline,
and we were limited. When we got the new system in '04, it was amazing... a
total of 8 sound cards! (4 distinct I/O's in each card. Two machines, 1 card
each.) THEN we had more system than we actually needed! ;) Still, there were times
when even with *that*, we had some limits due to feed scheduling conflicts.
(I had most programs scheduled to record twice. Backups, baby. Backups.)
After Aug 31'st, I was tasked with "splitting" the system... removing one of
the machines to put it at WARV, reconfiguring everything at WFIF's end to run
on just one machine. Since 90% of the programming was going to be originating
from RI, there was less need of double-backups at WFIF. It was a pretty major
project, but we were all pleased with the way it worked when it was all said
and done.
Yep, I actually worked myself out of a job. ;) ...but man, do I miss it...
The GOOD part: It allows the station to continue and the Company to continue.
It was worth it.
Willie...
