These were not "Mega-Churches"... most are small congregations, only about
100 people.
With the advent of these electronic signs, they can now offer advertising
packages that WOULD BE affordable to smaller organizations.
Think about it... let's just invent some numbers, here -
They buy $500 worth of advertising for a special concert they're having.
They run 10 impressions per hour, from 7-8am, for only 5 days, leading up to
the concert.
Done deal. All the advertiser had to do was provide the sign operator with a
JPG file of certain dimensions. The AE uploads the ad and the schedule to the
sign, and runs the credit card. 10 minutes worth of work. $500 into the
company, minus whatever percentage commission to him/her. Not a bad deal, I'd say!
Everyone wins!
If Lamar (the sign operator in this area) can keep selling these kinds of
"micro packages" one after another, it will quickly add up! They could easily be
billing *multiples* of what they'd make with a standard paper sign! Based on
how quickly they are replacing their paper signs with these electronic ones,
and the number of ads I see flashing by on them, I have a feeling they're not
doing too badly!
If they have been rolling-out these signs all over the USA, this could easily
account for the significant uptick in sales for Outdoor Advertising. For all
I know, they could even be offering $100 packages! How much work could it take
to upload a JPG file and a simple schedule to a sign, and run a credit card
#? Do that enough times, and your Balance Sheet starts looking mighty fine! :)
Happy advertisers, happy bosses. Win-Win.
Gotta love this technology! We just have to capitalize on it! (I have yet to
see any local radio stations using those signs for dynamic ads... they're
still static, on paper.)
