That's a shame. I really like vast right wing and vast left wing
conspiracies. I have to tell you, at least in Talk Radio, these are
absolutely necessary for ratings. If Talk Radio were to deal honestly
and intelligently with important issues the format would go the way
of Easy Listening and Smooth Jazz.
In earlier times most news anchors were former newspaper guys. That's
when Journalism was part of the business. Except in rare cases,
that's long gone. Today there are two approaches that are guaranteed
to work. One is to entertain us. The other is to instill fear or pass
on the government's attempt to instill fear.
Personally, I prefer vast conspiracies to the vapid lives of Brittany
and Paris, though I do find the recent epidemic of supermodels
throwing fits on airplanes to be a lot of fun when they end up in
police stations saying "don't you know who I am?" How humiliating
when they don't.
Please don't take away our conspiracies. There have been enough jobs
lost, already. I'd hate to see Limbaugh and Hannity on the bread
lines. I wonder if Hannity, the superpatriot, flew to New Mexico to
whip up a frenzy of pseudo patriotism. I'll be very disappointed if
he didn't. It would be a bad sign for future ratings.
