I doubt this is anything more than an individual station's policy. If 
it were true I would never have gotten the job at WOR, New York. The 
Tom Bodett show had ended and I took a couple of months off. On a 
lark I sent a single resume to WOR. It wasn't for a specific job. 
They were thinking of starting a network and the timing was perfect. 
I had no idea what their plans were. I had worked for the ABC Radio 
Networks and we thought it was a good match.

I seem to recall the interview form that I had to use as an employer 
had a space for referral information but it wasn't necessary that it 
be filled in.

How many people mass mail (or email) resumes during a job search? How 
could an applicant know all the job titles that might be open?
