Mike,

Until the IRS and present tax codes are abolished, you are
correct. It is primarily the federal government that has
elevated the status of the accounting profession, that
would otherwise be simple clerical record keepers. I agree
some are very good and seriously interested in the true
health of the enterprise, but many fixate on numbers as
though those **were** the product of the company and fail 
to understand the larger picture and long term survival.
