Utterly amazing! If Dave McElhatton (the dean of Bay Area TV anchors, 
also a veteran of KCBS radio) hadn't already retired, these guys 
probably would have fired him, too.

I just got off the phone with a friend of mine out there, who tells me 
that the tech area wasn't hit too hard. One tech was offered a buyout; 
if that person declines the buyout, the least senior tech will be laid off.

I suspect the reporters won't be out of work for long, and hopefully the 
same for their newsroom colleagues. Still, the sense I get over the last 
  few days is that CBS is absolutely gutting the heart and soul of their 
O&0 newsrooms. CBS Newspath also is suffering, with at least one 
reporter, possibly more, along with producers, cameramen, and truck ops 
getting cut.
