It's likely that I misremembered the location of the main FM TX 
because I never visited the FM site in New York City; as far as I was 
concerned, it was something on the other end of a remote control. The 
station had a backup FM TX at the main studio site in N.J.  IIRC, the 
antenna was mounted on one of the AM towers.
