100 watts? they were 10K day! They could have run 2500 watts non-d for a
time. WFIF has had to run non-d on a few occasions while I was there. (1250
watts.) Listeners on Long Island stated calling, asking what we did to come in so
good. Our more distant listeners here in CT asked why they couldn't hear us as
well. It was when we had a tower fall, another time when we had to replace a
tower, and again when maintenance was being done on the antenna system.

Anyway, it is obvious that WNLC did not have insurance, because something
like that should *not* have been *that* expensive! They were already doomed. :( I
guess this just made a convenient excuse. Perhaps they *did* have insurance,
and the payout was more than they thought they could get for the station? I
find that hard to believe, though... either that, or they were deep in debt, and
this was the easiest way to file bankruptcy. I just have such a hard time
grasping how this situation was all it took to deep-six them. I think they "gave
up" much too easily.

Still, having clear coverage well up the CT coastline (Interstate 95) is a
bonus for WFIF, now that 1510 is gone.

Willie...
