A slow response time and poorly designed remote control seem to be typical
of low-end consumer electronics these days, but the Insignia was by far
the worst I've encountered. It made me feel like I was using Windows 95
on a 386SX, with a PCjr keyboard.
Meanwhile, I popped into Circuit City to see what they had on display.
I found no HD Radios available, aside from a few "HD Radio-ready" car
radio head units. It was kind of amusing that they had no HD Radio, but
they did have three turntables on display! They also had an analog
Receptor radio, which had amazingly good AM and FM reception inside the
store, just using its built-in AM antenna and the short piece of wire it
comes with for FM.
It sounded pretty darn good, too -- but $149 is a lot to spend on just a
one-speaker mono radio.
