The one good thing about the factory radio in my Kia is that it is
relatively immune to power line noise. It seems to have very effective
impulse noise blanking. When I drive under a noisy power line, the audio
just gets distorted, from the noise impulses being "chopped out" of the
audio, but it remains intelligible, with a low noise floor and little or
no audible buzzing or static.
In fact, it took me a while to figure out what was going on, and what was
causing the AM audio to occasionally sound distorted. It was only when I
realized that it was happening in the same locations every time, that I
figured out the cause.
Now if only it had some decent bandwidth on AM, and on FM for that matter.
Just like many recent factory car radios, I have to turn the treble
control all the way up just to get decent treble response on FM -- and
then when I switch to a CD, I have to back it down to zero treble boost or
it will sound way too bright!
