That's also a very good reason to have at least one non-cordless phone.

Also, your handy hint for the day -- what are you doing with your luggage
when you're not on vacation? Take one suitcase for every member of the
family and throw a couple of changes of old clothes in there. You're not
trying to make a fashion statement; you want to survive. Put in copies of
your insurance policies and other important documents. Basic first aid
stuff. A flashlight and some batteries (but not in the flashlight). Maybe
a blanket. A radio? Sure. Your ham radio HT? Absolutely, if you have
one. Also, some protein bars and a few cans of Ensure (or a reasonable
facsimile thereof). Maybe a few bottles of water. You will have to
remember to rotate out the food and water every few months. The suitcases
on rollers are very helpful as this stuff can get fairly heavy. Put your
"bug-out bags" in the hall closet or someplace where you can get to them
quickly if you need to leave in a hurry. Now you're good to go.
Literally.
