I know this was discussed on this board a couple years ago, but I don't
recall what the consensus was.
In these days of music-on-hard-drive, what are the requirements for having
"hard" copies of every song in your database? You can buy an automation
system with music pre-loaded...in the case of a format change are you
legally obligated to go out and buy a GoldDisc library to cover yourself
(aside from the obvious ability to "go live" in the event of an automation
crash)? How does this address the fact that distribution of promo copies
has also gone toward downloads replacing CDs...in the case of a
current-based format there's a good possibility that you NEVER had a hard
copy of a given song.
Given that few stations these days actually play CDs anymore, I'm sure
this has been addressed by the powers-that-be.
