To All:
How many know that before leading a group to purchase BE from Filmways Corp.
in the late 70s for 27 years prior to that he worked for and eventually ran
the Gates Radio division of Harris Intertype Corp.? He was instrumental in
purchasing the assets of the old General Electric Broadcast Electronics
division launching Gates into the television business back in 1972. One of
his other innovations included opening a walk in store for Gates products in
of all places in NYC's borough of Manhattan which was a great place for
foreign broadcast executives visiting NYC to be exposed to Gates Radio
products.
Along the way he encouraged a lot of us to buy his products and to start our
own firms. I can remember him giving me some simple advice when I started
BDI. He said you have to be careful, do your research and make the right
products for the market or you will loose your shirt! Well Larry, thanks!
I'm still wearing mine!
Regards,

Most of the old-timers (and many of the not-so-old timers) probably remember
Larry Cervon from his years heading BE.
In 1977, Larry moved the company from its start-up location in Silver
Spring, MD to Quincy, IL. Thirty years later, the staff and management of BE
will dedicate a plaque to Larry to recognize his achievements. Larry will
not be able to travel to Quincy for the event, but will be "webcammed in"
from his home on Long Island.
The recognition event will be held in Quincy, IL on Friday at noon CDT. For
those who want to participate without travelling, we will offer a webcast.
And for those who have worked with Larry, we have a "virtual guest book".
Both can be accessed at http://www.bdcast.com/larry where you can also find
more info on attending in person.
Ciao,
Neil
