Perhaps the neglected detail will convince you.
The total number of pages in the phone book(s)
determine the capacitance to ground from the
reactor to the transmitter floor. With a negative
(capacitive) reactance equal to the postive
(inductive) reactance of the reactor the shorted
one turn secondary will neutralize itself and the
problem solved.
