Ugly as it may be ... one way to do it is to put a break in the audio
lines...

Use an old rack panel, and 2 DPDT 3 position switches.
Put the output on the center of each... that will be the feed to whatever.
Put the left input on one end, the right input on the other end of the DPDT.

Toggle the switch up... you get Left fed to your device on that input
.... toggle down, you'll get right. Stereo stuff needs two switches... if
you use the DB9 connectors, you can make it fairly neat on the back side.

Unplug the harness from the receiver, plug in you switch arrangement, and
plug the output of that into the harness you just took off the reciever.

I guess if you think about it long enough you can lay it out so you'll get
Left output to both channels with both switches up, Right output to both
with both switches down. Normal audio with one switch up one switch down...
reversed audio by reversing the switches.

Ugly but it works and yes you can keep it balanced audio.

You could probably do the same thing with a bigger gang switch, if you think
about how you lay out the stuff on the pins.
