[BC] How standard is THIS?

There was a Radio/TV group owner based here in LA that recently paid
$750,000.00 to settle a lawsuit brought by current and former employees.
Among other things, it's my understanding they were doing the following:
Employees had to use their own vehicles and gas to go to transmitter sites,
sales calls, etc. NO mileage reimbursement.
Office staff had to buy their own office supplies. No reimbursement.
This group cheated people out of severance and vaction pay.
This group had a pattern of fighting unemployment claims.
Employees were expected to essentially become indentured servants to this
company. They were required to 'donate' all sorts of things to the (privately
held, profit making) company-while its owner continued to buy more
properties.
This is NOT some rinky-dink outfit either, They own radio and TV stations all
over the country, including a radio station here in LA with a three letter
call.
What a herd of scumbags, eh?
