LOL! ;) That sounds like Hebrew National!
Anyway...
No question that calling it "CD Quality" (or even Seedy Quality) is a GROSS
exaggeration... but when compared to "plain ol' analog" on *most* commonly
available AM radios, it *does* sound a lot better, especially to untrained ears.
I disagree with the hyperbole quite strongly. Unfortunately, the information
they had on the site a few days ago has been taken down. It pertained to
actual listeners reactions, inquiries about the radios, where to get them, etc. It
also mentioned their EDUCATIONAL spots, informing listeners about the need for
special radios, and where to get them. It appears that for whatever reason,
that have removed all of that content! :(
Suffice it to say, I got a bit of a "scolding" from the gentleman about my
very negative comments about HD in another Forum. His experiences with it at his
station have been very positive... but I truly believe that his station is an
*atypical* exception. Perhaps he just isn't getting enough 1'st adjacent
"crud" out there in the Denver market to be a problem for his station or
listeners. They are a non-D, so there's another factor in their favor. They spent a
large sum upgrading their entire plant. All of those things are working in their
favor, so it's probable that they ARE having a measure of success with this
system that others aren't seeing. (Playing informative spots helps, too.)
It would be interesting for anyone here in the Forum who is near Denver to
check out their coverage, etc. both in HD and analog. If the guy WAS "buttering
my bread a little" about their success, I'd be willing to call him on it...
but I cannot without hard evidence.
Willie...
