[BC] Thought For The Day

Massachusetts is not a "right to work" state. A company
is allowed to hire and fire at will. It's a throwback to the
old mill-towns where the cotton mills would hire when
the fields were being harvested then lay everybody off
so they could go to work at the wool mills, which would
provide employment for the rest of the year.

Unfortunately, the concept stuck and the laws remained,
even after all the mills closed.

It has been said that in the radio industry, 10 years
experience really means one years experiance, ten
times. This is in no small part due to the visibility
of the industry's employees.

Once the manager of many companies, not just
Radio and TV stations, learns your name, you are
on the way out the door! They always know somebody
who could do your job better than you. So, try not to
tell anybody what you do!

Sometimes that works, but not always. About a month
and a half ago, by boss who I see about once a year,
walked into my off and nonchalantly said, "I'm terminating
your employment at Analogic." After I cleaned 20 years
of stuff out of my office, I was reinstated.

Rumor has it that my boss just wanted me to clean
up my office.
