[BC] Company Laptops

Usually, I require them to sign a receipt for the equipment, that states the
computer has to be returned when they leave or their last pay check will be
docked an amount equal to the units depreciated value. I also put a statement
in there which states that they are responsible for damage due to neglect-and
that neglect is determined: "in our sole opinion". That way if they trash the
unit, you can get them to pay for its repair. Than you have to be realistic
that with a laptop, some damage simply happens as normal wear and tear...
You can put something in about unauthorized software, but I find that laptops
are always full of NA stuff, simply because they're used by only one person.
I'd also put good anti virus and anti spamware programs on the unit, set them
to auto update (at a time when you KNOW they will be connected to the
Internet) and automatically run, and set them to remove problems automatically
as well.

Subject: [BC] Company Laptops
Our company has made the decision to furnish our sales people with
laptops...with that said. What rules do other companies impose on their
company property? Do employees have to sign any agreements? How to protect
them against loss or theft? Feel free to contact off list and share with me
all comments and any documents you may have.
