Ah!   No aspersions meant to your friend and our professional 
colleague - just a first impression based on the visual 
evidence.  You're correct, of course - mods could very well have been 
made by some non-technical person(s) which would have lead to the 
untimely demise.  My apologies.... but, certainly the condition of 
the building, and especially the transmitter, were shocking!
