[BC] Aux transmitters

For Paul W. & company...
Lots of years ago, I worked at a daytimer, and soon found that there are
certain transmitter problems that cannot be addressed between sunset and
sunrise. While the current crop of Solid-State transmitters is great, they WILL
fail. The repair for the solid-state boxes frequently relies on how fast Fedex
can get a new circuit board to you. And hope you guessed right on the
diagnosis, the first time.
You, as the Engineer are responsible for delivering a signal at all
times. Therefore, a regularly-tested Aux transmitter (of either persuasion) is
highly recommended.
Only last week, a BE-1A took a nap, and I had to press a trusty Bauer 707
into service. This kept the income stream alive for the 28 hours it took to
receive a new power supply module. Could have cobbled one, but it would have
taken a couple of hours.
A few years ago, another station with a BE-1A had power supply board
problems. BE sent a new board, but it was defective, and they had to send another
one. An elderly Bauer FB-1000 J took up the slack for the four days while
all THAT was going on..
Moral: Always have at least two ways of doing something!
Have a great weekend,
