Paul,
   I could see Class A stations like WSM, WLW, WLAC,WLS,WABC, etc having an aux transmitters.  In your case in little WABV-AM, just a little daytimer, there is no need for that. Your boss needs to get rid of those old RCA & Gates Transmitters and donate them to the ham guys.  He needs a new Armstrong or BE.  That's all you need.  I've operated my Armstrong since July of 04 and it's not been off yet.  Mark would find AC bill savings and he could lower power at night with out problems.
  If you feel the need for a back up to a newer solid state box, Energy Onix make a 250 watt box that could be had for about 3 grand.
