Alas and alack.  Gone are they days when stations had a platoon of engineers 
and a well equipped shop. The maintenance engineers would "roll their own" 
customized equipment rather than purchasing off the shelf from a catalog.  

I recall stories on this list of the customized home-brew transmitters at the 
McLatchey stations, and at WAPE in Florida.
