The old KLIF RA-1000 was a great rig. I installed it at KATT. When it
arrived from Dallas, it looked as if the guys in Dallas had given it one
last wax job before it left. I set it to 1140 by popping in a new crystal
and zero-beating it against the existing transmitter. We were running a
prototype of the Gregg Labs processor on the AM at the time. I never had
the guts to feed the Gregg to the RA-1000. Probably would have done fine
with moderate clipping.

The installation of the KLIF RA-1000 at OKC was one of those "circle of
life" deals. When I first arrived at KATT in 1976, an old RA-1000 was
laying face down in front of the transmitter building. A victim of one of
the mysterious fires that seemed to have plagued that site from time to
time. I salvaged some parts before I had it hauled away. I never expected
to see another RA-1000 at the site. Good rig.

Stan

That RA-1000 wound up at the old KATT(AM), 1140 in Oklahoma City. I know. I
was there. Amazing transmitter. Motor driven loading and tuning controls,
and large enough to walk inside. As I remember, no fans, everything
convection cooled. I worked when I needed it to, and sounded very good.
