Rick:

You are correct the KLIF studio were upstairs at "triangle point" intersection of Commerce St, Jackson St., and North Central Expressway before the overhead. Ron Chapman worked there as the first Irving Harrigan, later on Granny Emma was an invention of Ken Dowe. KLIF's AM transmitters were at two locations, a day site, 50 kW. off South McArthur on Bush Lane between Irving and Grand Prairie, Texas a four tower in-line broadside array, with major pattern east and west over Dallas and Ft. Worth. At the triple underpass in Dallas the RF used to measure 1 Volt.

The night site was located at the original KLIF daytime only site at 6300 Scyene Road near Bruton road with 5 Towers in-line in the White Rock Creek bottoms. That was a 5 kW. ND day site until 1959 when the 50 kw. site was built in Irving. KLIF was a daytime only from 1947 till about 1950 when granted directional 1 kW. at night. They were granted 5 kW. ND day at that site in about 1953.

In 1967 we began construction of the new nighttime site, the 12 tower array, 2 rows of 6-tower, SE of Rockwall, Texas on hi-way 740, for 5 kW. nights. The major lobe was off the broadside of the array and was a line thru downtown Dallas and on to Ft. Worth. The station for a period of time operated with three transmitter sites using three power levels and a total of 21 radio towers. Beat that for an AM station. After the new 5 kW. night site was granted a license as a "critical array" the old 5 tower site on Scyene Rd. was abandoned and the CE 315 transmitter was sold to KHYM in Gilmer, TX. I don't know where the original RA-1000 transmitter went.

KLIF's sister FM station, KNUS was not located at Cedar Hill until it was sold. It became KLUV and moved from Chalk Hill, the 500 ft. self-supporter just off Now I-30 was the Dallas-Ft. Worth tollway and Westmoreland Ave to Cedar Hill where 98.7 remains today.

Enough old history. Nobody need 12 radio towers.

Dave,
Just out of curiosity, was the studio at KLIF in downtown Dallas, upstairs
in kind of a triangular building? Ron Chapman was doing shows there at the
time along with Grandma Emma. Those were some great days when KLIF was
booming 50,000 watts of rock 'n roll to the DFW area! I'm assuming the
transmitter was at Cedar Hill?

I'd love to have a copy also. I am sure Barry would post it for everyone
if you could get it to him.
I worked at KLIF and was one of the folk WOWO shared 1190 kHz. with back in
the '60's.

If you have access to a photo of the WOWO HG, I'd
sure like to see a copy, liven in Richmond IN for
10 years. WOWO was/is a great station.
