Indeed. :) It's part of healthy debate and discussion. I started-off really
psyched and looking forward to digital radio. That changed once this "emporer"
was exposed. (Pun intended.)

As has been suggested by others, before, (myself included) the only *viable*
way to make HD radio work, is to put it on another band, altogether. MW is
just not the place for it. I don't understand how/why dropping TV 5 & 6 and
making that an expanded FM band couldn't be made to work. Auction those freq's
just
like they do all the others... charge "spectrum fees" to the broadcasters,
just like they're already doing. It will make money, and it will make the
concept of digital radio far more appealing, because it will be *true* digital.
Just
like they did with HDTV, assign frequencies in that proposed expanded band to
operate as 100% digital. *Then* you would have a competitive system. The only
flies in the ointment there would be the "closed" system and the lack of
exonomical and battery-portable radios.
Closed system = Betamax. 'nuff said. ;)

The answer is as defined above- a new band. (It is working with HDTV.)
Nothing short of that is going to make this lead balloon fly.

I definitely see your point, but the thing is already showing us all kinds of
very serious problems. It's hard not to be pessimistic when the company that
owns this system is refusing to open the design and license it to other
manufacturers. They want the monopoly. That's not good. Some months back, their
WEBsite's *licensing information* pages had "Add your content here" on them!
That's worse than "careless"... it's *Shameful*!
