[BC] Designing a four station RF STL system

Harris Aurora did two T-1's in a single 5.8Ghz system. There were others
too. But that is unlicensed and depending on the location, prone to IX
outages. You need a really unique path for the system to not suffer IX
related outages.
With two T-1's you can run slightly compressed audio through them for four
stations. OTOH, the Intraplex system has the PTR255 cards which will do
Layer 2 or 3 at 384 Kbps per joined stereo pair. You can put 4 stereo
pairs on one T-1. And they're bidirectonal...which means they send audio
in both directions on one set of cards. Great for back-hauling. 1/2 the
price of a set of PT/PR350 cards.
Harris really hated to sell me those cards as we both knew that they were
THE best deal for bandwidth utilization versus cost in the whole product
line. Whether they sell them at all right now is something entirely
different. But rest assured, they sound good on both AM and FM as long as
what's feeding them is already not bit rated reduced. I'm using them all
over the place....and Harris cringes every time I call wanting more of them.
