FT COLLINS, CO & SAN ANTONIO, TX, March 13, 2007 - The National
Institute of Standards and Technology is close to signing a Lease
Management Agreement with Clear Channel Communications, Inc. for its
flagship Time and Frequency station WWV, Fort Collins, Colorado.
Clear Channel Radio's consultants will implement some changes to the
sound of the station, which broadcasts time of day, standard frequency,
and other information 24 hours per day, saying that the old format is
"dull and predictable."
Additionally, WWV's traditional modulation level of 50 percent for the
steady tones, 50 percent for the BCD time code and 75 percent for the
voice announcements was deemed "not loud enough." The station will
reformulate itself as "The Tick."
WWV's program director Hickory Zeitgeist says that the station has
already added some snappy new announcements to the rotation.

About radio station WWV
WWV is the callsign of NIST's shortwave radio station located in Fort
Collins, Colorado. WWV's main function is the continuous dissemination
of official U.S. Government time signals. The station broadcasts
simultaneously on five distinct frequencies: 2.5, 5, 10, 15 and 20 MHz.
These carrier frequencies, as well as the time signals, are derived from
a set of atomic clocks located at the transmitter site, which themselves
are traceable to NIST's primary frequency standard in Boulder, Colorado
using such techniques as GPS common view observations. WWV is partnered
with radio station WWVH, located in Hawaii. Onsite with WWV in Fort
Collins is also radio station WWVB, which operates on the low frequency
of 60 kHz.
Clear Channel's dominance continues!!
