[BC] Interesting IBUZ article & WTWP

I am sort of amazed by the sudden angry interest in IBOC "hash generators".
Where have you all been over the last twenty or so years when the manmade
noise floor increased by many many decibels? Did anyone demand that the FCC
regulate lighting devices? Driven through an intersection lately with LED
signal lamps? I lived within a few miles of an AM in Garden City, Kansas.
I was CE at that facility but could not listen to it at home because of the
noise from all the electric fences around every winter wheat field. KBBI in
Homer, Alaska has a large wielding shop close to the studio that just kills
reception in the on air monitors. I see the problem as this:
Too many AM stations
Failure of the FCC to make sure that directional systems are properly
maintained and operated
Program choices on AM that attract only those demographics that really need
to get a life.
The absolutely useless NAB that should be doing all it can to stop BPL.
That will be the real killer of AM. And lets face it, most people will
choose more internet service over any of our radio services today.
And maybe most of the young populace simply do not think that traditional
radio is of any worth to them. How many Ham Radio clubs are there in High
Schools these days? Not many I will bet. Radio ain't magic anymore, but
the Internet sure as hell is.
I noticed last week that the real topic of conversation in our office was
the new wide screen HD TV and the BlueRay player that someone bought. All
of the staff children thought that was cool.
And now back to my work installing yet another infernal HD radio station in
Alaska. If the cold war starts anew, I will be ready to counter the Russian
Woodpecker with nine AM HD stations.
