I have had the same problem with a Dell Inspiron laptop too. You need to becareful which drivers you load if have to reload the entire system.  My wife loves to get viruses on her PC and I have had to reload it three times.  Finally, I got a copy Ghost and hold the base image for her laptop on my PC.

         My main complaints with the Thinkpad are
        
         2. The IBM wifi software fights with the XP software,
                 often causing problems.


         Probably the key issue for me is the hassle I go through
         a different hotels when the wifi software fight each other.
