I'd have to at least consider the HP stuff.
FWIW-
This is an old CompaqArmada 7400. Runs XP pro just fine, still has all the
various gazintas and gozottas, so interfacing to to non-usb stuff isn't a
problem... though it also has usb and infrared and etc. if needed. Had it
for years... 95, W2kPro, XP Pro...
Also, FWIW, I don't think there's really *that* much difference in which
particular brand you buy, if it is a major brand, and if it does what you
want it to... I think most of the subject of what make a 'good' laptop
versus what makes a 'bad' laptop is subject to personal interpretation.
(Dude, your dell's on FIRE! <g>)
No matter what brand I'm using... I wouldn't really like the idea of
having *all* my 'important' info only available on the rig that can be lost,
stolen, damaged... so... I take advantage of having a much bigger faster
machine at home, and keep my laptop cleaned out of unneeded stuff on a
regular basis... though I *do* keep copies of programs I *think I might
need* for various jobs available on CD with the laptop...
Or at least on removable 'thumb' drives.
This rig was $400 when I bought it. Still runs fine. MX processor, 128mb
mem, 10Gb hd, cd, 2pcmcia, usb, ir, v90 modem, etc.
