ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A computer virus that has been spreading across 
the country struck Anne Arundel County office Wednesday, infecting a few 
hundred computers but forcing the shutdown of thousands to prevent 
further infection, officials said.

The virus, called Rinbot, disrupted operations at the Turner 
Broadcasting System [CNN] last week, then attacked computers at The 
Boston Globe and almost all of the McClatchy Co.'s 32 newspapers.

A new strain of the Rinbot virus -- unusual in that it targets 
Symantec's antivirus program instead of Microsoft software -- has 
infiltrated CNN's network, the news organization reported. Other large 
corporate networks may still be in danger of attack, but there is no 
cause for panic, according to Graham Cluley, senior technology 
consultant with IT security firm Sophos.
