[BC] Public File cautionary story

Barry & To All of You,
The FCC's (like everything else in terrestrial broadcasting) rules
are very outdated, and in my opinion, written for a perfect world. In
our day and time, people are just out for revenge, money, or just pure
meanness! We live in a day and time that we in the type business
(especially controversial news/talk stations) can not just allow anybody
in our facilities.
What p***** me off on this is that we only know the FCC's inspectors
side of the story, & of course, Mr. Morrison's side as well. How do we
know Mr. Morrison was not in there to threat or hurt someone? We don't
know and we never will.
We live in an unperfected world of sick people with behavioral problems.
This could have been a perfect time for Mr. Morrison to walk in with
a knife or gun and start killing. The FCC could care less about
anybody's but their own safety (especially since 911) and they, IMHO
have no consideration for anybody else safety that works at the
broadcast station, as their rules allow public access to radio & TV
stations that could put lives in danger, as we have (mentally) sick
people walking the streets!
I propose that that each station should place their public files on
their Internet Site and if people like Morrison really has the need to
see it, there it is for his review. This way, the FCC has a more of a
handle on this public file issue, and if they want to check to make sure
a station has a public file, there it is on the web, AND we are not
putting our staff in danger of mentally sick people.
The reason why I say all of this is my father was an administrator
of one of Tennessee's mental institutions for over 30 years, and people,
who appear to be very, normal, intelligent, individuals, can turn on you
quickly and kill you.
My father and I discussed this many times, as we saw lots of hate
for Clear Channel during its days of acquiring stations, and mergers,
something could have happen to someone that wouldn't have been too nice
and these public file rules need to be modified in a sense that the
public can still view it, but keep our staff out of harms way!
Scott

Subject: [BC] Public File cautionary story
It is a bit funny how protective some stations and entities get with
their Public File - and who and how they will allow it to be seen.
Creative reasons for it not being available are not impressing the
FCC. "We were just updating it" is clearly one that doesn't work.
In reading this file, it is interesting to see the reasoning by the
FCC. There is one aspect that did not, unless I missed it, get the
strong scolding that it should have. I'll leave it to see if someone
else sees it.
