As far as I know, they were never off--at least not for any significant 
length of time. WHO is the EAS LP-1 for central Iowa, so I'd imagine 
that they have backup power protection.

While there were pockets of power outages in the Des Moines metro 
area--our house was out for about 5 hours in the wee early hours of 
Sunday morning--the significant problems are in the smaller towns and 
rural areas. About 20 miles of a high-tension line came down in 
south-central Iowa. The utility people are saying that one of the big 
problems with this storm is the weight of the ice literally pulling the 
wires out of the houses they were attached to.

Looks like there might be a little more of the same headed this way 
tonight, but not anything like the weekend storms.
