In theory, if the two are closely synchronized as Alan has described,
the listener will only hear an effect resembling "multipath".

Another thought:  If the primary station is along the same line as the
two translator sites (either north or south), and heterodyne
conversion is used  (which assures matched modulation) using
GPS-referenced local oscillators in each translator, and the transmit
antenna of the furthest translator is directional away from the
translator that's closer to primary station, then delay problems will
be minimized.
