Paul,
It would be a shame for you to leave the list because of certain
specimens*. Here's how I look upon those people: Using the
description my wife, Margaret likes to use for people like this...
They may have a high IQ but they have no EQ. EQ as in, Emotional
Quotient. They just don't relate to other's feelings.
Unfortunately, there are a few on the list who believe that the way
to teach or mentor is by criticism. This is not at all unlike the
teacher who will call a math student to the blackboard who doesn't
understand a math principal and proceed to embarrass them in front of
the whole class. It simply is not constructive. So, consider that
most of us see this and simply ignore this type of person.
Consider that the individual/s who are obnoxious by their methods
probably grew up under criticism and simply don't know any
better. They're probably in fact good people but they just don't
know how to be open, friendly and supportive.
A list is like any group. If there are a hundred people, there are a
hundred different personalities. Most are good, some are bad. Hang
out with the ones you enjoy hanging out with.
Hang in with the rest of us.
* Specimen/s - In this case, a term used by my late friend Harry
Wells, W6YLC to describe an undesirable type of person because of
their conduct or personality.
