[BC] EMP - SS versus thermionic finals

It has been theorized that an enemy would only have to set off one
high-altitude nuclear blast to bring this country to it's knees. A
high-altitude blast does little or no physical damage but creates a
very strong EMP that could knock out electronic systems all over the
country. Even Iran may be capable of doing this with a off-shore SAM
missile.

Back in the '60s & '70s a great deal of attention was paid to EMP
protection. I remember a representative coming to our xmtr with boxes
of EMP suppression equipment and explaining how it should be installed
and I spend many a night doing just that. We also had a fully
equipment emergency studio in the basement with food, water and a
generator and could operate fully independent of the studio if
necessary. I doubt many stations are so prepared today.
