[BC] Audio Processing Observation

Yesterday while listening to a NASCAR race on WGTY 107.7 FM 
something strange seemed to be going on with the audio 
processing.  When the sound of the cars would come within 
range of the microphones the level or "perceived" level of 
the announcer's voice would get noticeably louder.  When the 
cars would go passed and fade away the level of the 
announcer's voice would go back down.  It kind of sounded 
like the gating on one band of processing was being confused. 
 I didn't notice this on commercials with background music.

I don't otherwise listen to the station so don't know how 
they sound normally.  It is a country music station.

Anyone have some thoughts?
