[BC] Is this the usual way a tower should be ?

On the subject of gates and locks in fact, this weekend.. I'll be replacing
the old rusty lock and chain with a brand new big fat padlock and hefty
chain.  The old one is fine and works great.. but I thought it's time to
replace it nonetheless.
