Dude, these already exist! The cell
phone/iPod/camera/walkie-talkie/toaster/hairdryer/toothbrush/comb/wallet/visor units are already everywhere!

When I went into the Sprint store to get a new phone (the battery was failing
on the still-working 4 yr old, old one... no replacement batteries available)
I asked for a *phone*. No camera, no ipod, just a phone. I got a nice one,
and it is, indeed, just a *phone*. :)

Feature-bloat is in overdrive mode these days. Insane.

Why put a clunky CD/DVD drive into the portable unit, though? Just let it be
part of the docking station, or use a computer to upload the disc into the
portable unit. I believe that the capability to select and download music already
exists in portable units that have Mobile Internet. Some of the other
features you mentioned are already available for the right price. The future is now,
man! ;)

The audience research is also very possible with Mobile Internet, so that's
already possible, too.

Willie...
