John,
I use three of the Ptek Amplifiers. 2 are in my off site Auxiliary
backup transmitters for my two FM's and one is the replacement IPA for my on
site backup Continental 816. They seem to be pretty good nowadays. Earlier
I had problems with the input circuits which are mostly resistive power
dividers that were rated to low for proper drive without burning out. One
of the previous engineers here ran them with way to much drive and fried a
couple of them. I did replace the front panel fans in my backups with
continuously running 110 Volt AC fans to keep them cooler. Now, after
rebuilding them they are fine. The newest one has not been rebuilt and has
worked very well. The one time I've sent one for service, it was good,
rapid but not cheap. I have no hesitation recommending them for a low cost
amp.
