Actually, it does. It didn't take off. It grew gradually over a lot
of years. Maybe I'm sensitive to the suggestion of instant success
because of the blather coming from the HD Dominion's press releases
that would lead one to believe the IBUZ receivers are "flying off the
shelf." It's hype of the lowest order. There's a revolution no one can find.

In most cases it was slow growth. If you take 1960 as a reference
where AM dominated and FM receiver sales were growing, I'd say 1985
would have been about the time AM began to worry a lot as they lost
their dominance as a group, though most major markets still have an
AM or two in the top 5. I recall New York FM Sales Managers
complaining as recently as 5 years ago that they can't get the rates
the big AMs could. WGN, Chicago and WFAN, New York traditionally held
the record for the highest billing. Only recently has WLTW-FM moved
to the top of the list. WFAN had weak numbers with the hottest demos
(young males) through the years it was the highest biller. WGN and
WLTW have great numbers. With increasing frequency WGN is losing the
#1 spot to WGCI.
