(and operator of an AM) thought FM would never amount to anything.<<

The Worcester Telegram & Gazette newspaper, at one time, owned WTAG(AM),
WTAG-FM and a construction permit for WTAG-TV (ch.5) in Worcester MA.
They got rid of both the FM and the TV, stating that those new media
were merely the fads of the moment.

WTAG-FM became WSRS and is Worcester's only station in double-digit
shares, and has been that way since the 1970s. WTAG-TV's channel was
moved to Boston and is now that city's ABC affiliate. As late as 1980,
the general manager of WTAG(AM) was still claiming that FM was not a
factor in the Worcester market. The Arbitron book said otherwise. Must
be nice to be so far out of touch.
