thanks chuck,
this is actually pretty good news for me too.  If we get a lot of snow, I 
can now rest easy and not have to go out and excavate the feedpoint of my 
160 m. inverted L!  the vertical wire comes down and ends at an insulator 
about a foot above the radial plate.

Every year the base of the antenna at KBRW-AM in Barrow gets covered with 
about six to ten feet of snow.

The VSWR changes hardly at all.  When spring arrives in June we just dig out 
the balls gap.
