And my $0.25 garage sale special Panasonic pocket radio picks up
stations 100 + miles distant, down in my basement......
I guess I'm missing the all important "big HD picture" here. $150-300
is better spent in this case how?
I've watched and listened to the discussions on the grandiose expectations
and promises of HD, and even after all this time (a few years now?), I
see nothing - nothing - to even yawn about.
Even if it sounds clearer (and just how "clear" must it be in order to
decently
transport the information anyway?), who cares? If I must have a clean
listen, I'll go down to the basement, push the on button on the CD changer,
and
away I go. It's quiet there, and most importantly, there are no
distractions.
And that's the most important issue here. Even in a car with a decent sound
system, or in the house while running around doing chores, there are
distractions
that subtract from the listening so that even a CD isn't "CD quality". So
what's
the point?.... who cares? it's background entertainment.
When foreground entertainment is wanted, it most likely won't come from
an over the air radio. That isn't radio's place anymore. There's no sense
trying to put this genie back in the little bottle. She's been out since
1969.
Well, that's the way I see it. And I don't personally know of anyone who
listens
to radio as much as I do. Other than the inevitable audio plant cleanup, I
don't
see any benefit coming from HD radio. Sorry...
