BC-1G: took care of it from 1970 to 1986; it once had one of the paralelled
caps across the PA tuning coil short, other than that ran fine, still does
FM 2.5K: installed in 81, still using it for aux today; once had a loose PA
filament connection
FM 10H3, owner bought used to increased ERP, changed frequency from top of
band to 97.9, was a bitch to get tuned but after that ran and ran and ran
MW-5: took care of it from 85-90, a runaway gen-set took out the PA damper
assy, other than that was bulletproof
MW-1: aux for the MW-5, never a problem
Gates Five: two fuses in 18 months
HT-10: once had a bad connection on input from exciter; runs full bore 24/7
HT-20: replaced IPA last month. runs great

> One of the first times that I got an intimation that Gates may not have
been the best thing going was a quip by Barnett F. Goldberg, P.E.[RIP], at a
1968 SCBA seminar:" When all else fails, look in the instruction manual and
there you'll find the guarantee from Gates."
> A couple of decades later, I think it was Rick Stevens [RIP] that said
that the standard thing was for someone to call the factory about a problem
only to be told that they had never heard of it; then, a couple of hours
later, the area salesman would call saying that there was a kit available
from stock to fix it. lol
