[BC] Gates FM 1-G

I maintained a 10-G back in the mid 70's. We drove it with the then new
Collins exciter (310z-2?). Burned a hole through the low pass filter during
an ice storm because the de-icers didn't work and the jocks couldn't use the
VSWR meter. I never lost the choke in the tank, but once melted the anode
coupling on the tube because the fingerstock around the back of the PA
cavity had burned away.
That rig was temporary. When it ran, it ran. It was replaced by a Rockwell
Collins 20 kw rig. Later, a 6 bay ERI rototiller was installed and the
Collins was twinned with another for 40 kw.
The power company is still sending gifts.

I had to keep up several of the FM 1G models back in my younger years
(1970's)and they were extremely well built and very tolerant of power
surges, etc. The best thing to happen to mine was to replace the exciters
with the QEI stereo model, and to put 4CX1500's in the final cavity after
rebuilding it (already 20 years of service on it when that happened-1985).
They were stable and they did their job.
Only problem was that the National RF Choke kept blowing in the PA section
(Z-144 or Z-50).
Does anyone know where I could get a semi-free manual or softcopy of the 1G?
For old times sake.
Stan
I recently acquired a Gates 1T, 500 and 250 manual,
Collins 300 G manual that I hope to scan and make available to any who need
it.
