Magnetic media may just be getting better.
From U. S. Recording:
"Important Note: Quantegy has decided to end production of their open
reel recording tape. RMGI will be ramping up production as necessary
to take care of your future recording needs. Even with the
elimination of Quantegy's analog tape production in the USA, US
Recording has plenty of RMGI open reel tape in stock, as does the
RMGI warehouse in the USA and Holland. There's no need to worry about
the availability of tape even with the phase out of open reel tape at
Quantegy."
And from ATR:
"ATR Magnetics has completed external beta testing of its new line of
ATR Master Tape.
The new tape formulation is not a remake of past formulations. We
have raised the bar in many aspects like noise floor and elevated
operating level. These improvements have been verified by closely
tracking the tape's performance on our custom ATR-102 recorders.
Our first formulation of ATR Master Tape is a very high output 1.5
mil tape with operating levels up to +10 dB over 185 nW/m, which will
be supplied in 2", 1", 1/2" and 1/4" widths on 10.5" reels."
Magnetic recording is not ending. A new era is just beginning.
