We had an outside company file for 6 frequencies "mobile stations" on
our tower site. They were granted by the FCC and we didn't know they
existed. This company then approached us and asked us to allow them to
place six system in our building "UNTIL" they could build on our site.
They promised us Backup Generation support, an expansion of our present
building ( with bells and whistles) and the beefing up of our tower, not
to mention a great price/foot rate for rent.
Our GM allowed the 6 units in the building (not really know if anything
would come of it). At least one transmitter had to be operational by a
given date. They then paid is about $200.00 per month UNTIL they could
get the site plan completed, approved and constructed. On my work
bench they placed six transmitters with licenses. They turned one on
and had a magnetic antenna hang from a metal beam in the building. Took
pictures and ... that was the last we saw of them.
Short Story: They sold the six frequencies to a local company and quite
paying rent. We pulled the plug and boxed up the transmitters. The
company that bought the frequencies showed up about a year later to
claim their equipment. We got about 6 months a rent for one unit to be
plugged in and a lot of promises BUT nothing else.
